Hitchin were back in League action tonight and were drawn away to Hoddesdon Town FC. After a slight delay to kick off, both teams started well with some good football all over the pitch. Hitchin Town produced a fantastic performance to secure another 3 points.
Following the reverse fixture early on in the season Hitchin were aware of the potential that Hoddesdon could bring to the field of play. The back four of Josh Millett, Matt Morley (c), Lewis Holmes and Dean Hardware were confident on the ball and any attempts by the Hoddesdon forwards were quickly defended well. The 1st half was quite even with both sides attacking well. The game was extremely tight at times and the frustration from the Hoddesdon officials was clear to hear. A nasty clash just before half-time saw captain, Matt Morley, have to leave the field of play. At half-time both teams went with a 0-0 scoreline.
The second half was a complete change, Hitchin Town dominated from the off and stepped up the pressure. A few positional changes were made which saw Simon Gibbons come on and George Higley into centre back position. Ross Bates and Kyle Ronald did well in midfield.
Hitchin always looked the stronger side and much more dangerous, and this was reqwarded when Hitchin Town capitalised on a counter attack which saw Lee Neale slot the ball intot he back of the net on the 75th minute. 0-1. With only 15 minutes left to play Hoddesdon kept up the pressure and in the 85th minute keeper Ryan Yule pulled off a save any England team would be proud of. Full time score was 0-1.
A much deserved win for a Hitchin side that worked hard throughout and got their rewards accordingly. After the disappointing draw last week, it was good to see you all back on track.
Hitchin Town FC would like to wish Matt Morley a speedy recovery following his nasty injury during this game...Get Better soon Matt :)
