Hitchin picked up their first win of their pre-season programme, edging past Stotfold by the odd goal in three.

The Canaries fielded  a strong line-up at Roker Park, but ended the game with only three of the men that started the 90 minutes.

John Frendo gave Hitchin the lead on 20 minutes, netting from close range after a free kick had taken a deflection.

Zak Burke added a second on 32 minutes, shooting in off the post after a neat ball from Callum Donnelly.

Stotfold’s response was a cool finish from Josh Bronti on 35 minutes.

Burke almost scored again just before the interval when his fierce shot struck the angle of bar and post.

The second half, which saw multiple changes, was notable for the form of youngster Ryan Adam, who was denied three times.
