The Canaries put on a professional performance at Wroxham and comfortably beat last season’s FA Vase runners-up.
Once again, Hitchin played some very attractive and free-flowing football, suggesting that Carl Williams’ new regime is starting to reap benefits.
Hitchin took the lead after 21 minutes when Thomas Mustapha ra...n onto a through ball and netted from 15 yards. Two minutes later, it was 2-0 as Bradley Harrison shot home following a corner.
Louis Lee and Ieuan Lewis both went close to extending Hitchin’s lead before Tom Pepper added a third on 43 minutes, driving into the net from 15 yards.
Mustapha, who is rapidly developing as a pre-season find, scored his second on 53 minutes after good work by Lee.
Two minutes later, Wroxham pulled a goal back but Mustapha could have added even more Hitchin goals in the closing stages. It was left to Liam George to score the fifth goal for the Canaries nine minutes from time from a cross by Aiden Byfield.
