The Canaries had a comfortable 90 minutes against Spartan South Midlands League new boys Stotfold at Roker Park.
The new approach adopted by manager Carl Williams, a more open-attacking game with an emphasis on passing, is developing fast, and the Hitchin fans in the near-100 crowd went away encouraged by what they saw.
There was also good news in the form of two goals for new signing Bradley Harrison, who had a fine 45 minutes in the Hitchin front line.
It was another new face, Thomas Mustapha, who opened the scoring after 28 minutes, finishing well from a cross by Ieuan Lewis.
Although the game was largely one-sided, it was not until the 51st minute that Hitchin scored again, Harrison finding the net from a Richard Howell free kick.
Glen Lamacraft added a third on 64 minutes, heading home from Liam George’s free kick.
And the scoring was completed on 78 minutes when Harrison’s shot was fumbled by the Stotfold keeper and rolled into the net.
