Hitchin’s third pre-season game ended in a goalless draw against Ryman Premier side Hendon at Top Field.
The Canaries gave 45 minutes to a new central defender, Jon Wadworth and he impressed the 141 crowd with his aerial prowess.
The first period had few chances, but headers from Wadworth and Dean Gilbert went close to opening the scoring.
The second period was far livelier, thanks to the introduction of substitute Richard Howell. He had a succession of opportunities, starting with a cross that was almost turned home a Hendon defender and then when he tried to squeeze the ball into the net but was denied by keeper Berkeley Laurencin.
Hitchin’s own custodian, Martin Bennett, prevented Aaron Morgan from scoring with his feet and late in the game he pulled off two fine saves from Lubo Guentchev and Jon-Jo Bates.
Hitchin lined up: Bennett, Fontenelle, Pepper, Gilbert, Wadworth (Smith h/t), Williams, Lewis, Lee (C.Donnelly 56), Arlick, Harrison (Howell h/t), Burke (Mustapha h/t)
