It may not have been great spectator fare, but Canaries manager Colin Payne was very pleased with the his squad performed against Zamaretto Premier side Nuneaton Town.
“This was an excellent work-out for us,” said Payne. “The squad is coming together nicely and although we have a couple of difficult of conversations to have, we are getting the players I feel we need.”
It was the usual 20-a-side pre-season contest, with very little in the way of goalmouth action. Recent signing Steve Velandia went close with a low shot but that aside, there was not much to entertain the near-200 crowd.
In the second half, Jamie Arlick sent a first time shot wide of the mark while at the other end, Nuneaton felt they should have had a penalty when Robert Foster was upended by Martin Bennett.
Hitchin’s best effort came from a Nuneaton defender, however, Neil Collett saving from a header by Kyle Storer.
Hitchin: Bennett (Wilmot), Payne, Reece, Williams (Hilll h/t), Gilbert, Smith (Lee), Fontenelle (Gutzmore), Gregson (Stanton), B.Donnelly (Arlick), Velandia (L.Donnelly), Burke (Brinkman)
