Hitchin got their long-awaited run-out when they met Ryman Premier Hendon on the artificial surface at Norton Road. But after a bright opening, the Canaries found that the London side had just a little too much in reserve.
The opening 45 minutes, at least, provided reasonable entertainment for the 75-plus crowd. Hitchin played some good football, with Jamie Arlick and Harry Hunt looking sharp up front, and Richad Howell went close to scoring. Dean Gilbert also should have scored, but volleyed over from close range.
Hendon took the lead after 44 minutes, Bradley Woods-Garness tapping the ball home from six yards. Hendon added to their lead in the 46th minute when Jamie Busby netted from the penalty spot, and the visitors scored again on 65 minutes through Yacine Hamada, who shot into the net after evading the challenge of two defenders.
