Hitchin Town 1 Stevenage Borough 4

Wednesday, August 1 2007

Stevenage's blend of squad and youth players was just too good for Hitchin in an entertaining game at Top Field.

The visitors took the lead after 29 minute when Jamie Eames, looking suspiciously offside, broke away and set up Daryl McMahon, who slotted home with ease.

Hitchin had a good spell following the goal with Jamie Arlick volleying over the bar and Glen Lamacraft striking the post with a first-time effort. Jon Stevenson also went close with a volley that went fractionally wide.

Stevenage extended their lead in the 44th minute, a delicate chip by Eames beating Ricky Perks in the Hitchin goal.

Four minutes into the second half, Stevenage scored again, Paul Hakim with a superb finish.
Hitchin then had a chance, Scott Orphanou shooting across the face of goal.

In the 80th minute, Carl Drew pulled a goal back for Hitchin, firing into the roof of the net.
But Stevenage were not finished and Leon Antoin scored with a minute to go.
