Hemel Hempstead Town 3 Hitchin Town 0

Tuesday, December 4 2007

A second-string Hitchin side was knocked out of the Herts Senior Cup at Hemel on the day that new manager Darran Hay added a new signing to his squad.

Hay has acquired the services of Arlesey striker Brett Donnelly, the 25 year-old son of former Hitchin assistant manager Ian Donnelly. The new man was not available for this tie and the Canaries line-up had a distinctly makeshift look about it.

But for more than an hour, Hitchin matched a full strength Hemel side. The first half ended all-square with only a handful of half chances.

Hemel took the lead after 65 minutes, Nathan Bowden-Haase scoring at the far post following a corner. Six minutes later, Bowden-Haase scored his second goal, a free header at the far post.

In the 84th minute, Hemel wrapped up the scoring when Steve Sinclair netted with a lob over Hitchin goalkeeper Martin Bennett.
