Hitchin Town 3 Colney Heath 0

Tuesday, November 6 2007

Three first half goals were enough to beat Colney Heath in the Herts Senior Cup at a near-deserted Top Field.

A much changed Hitchin side, with Martin Standen appointed skipper by manager Darren Salton, comfortably dealt with the challenge of the struggling Spartan South Midlands League team.

Glen Lamacraft, recalled from Knebworth, scored Hitchin's first goal after 15 minutes, volleying home from Mark Ducket's cross.

Seven minutes later, Hitchin extended their lead, David Iweduino scoring a fine solo effort. In the 38th minute, Standen netted his second goal in three games, again from the penalty spot after Ricky Miller had been brought down in the area.

Leon Simpson almost added a fourth just after the interval, but it was a very low key second period, underlined by the introduction of two veterans in the closing stages, Ken Gillard and David Cooper.

But there was also some bad news for the Canaries when striker Ricky Miller was sent off - the third successive game in which a Hitchin player has received a red card.
