Dunstable Town 2 Hitchin Town 0

Tuesday, August 2 2005

A weakened Hitchin side out in a creditable performance against a Dunstable team that included no less than seven former Canaries players.

Darren Salton, who 24 hours had seen his team lose to Luton Town side, must have been encouraged by the way his players played against an experienced Dunstable eleven.

Dunstable went close early on when Hitchin old boy Gary Dixon tested Steven Graham. The home side went ahead in the 33rd minute when Allan Arthur headed home a rebound after a James Osborn shot had struck the crossbar and Dixon had followed up with a drive against the post.

Dixon was also involved in Dunstable’s second goal in the latter stages of the game. The striker was brought down and from the free kick, Ben L’Honore netted.

Canaries fans were able to say farewell to Gordon Barr, who signed for Dunstable a few hours earlier. Barr came on as substitute for his new club.
