Bedford Town 0 Hitchin Town 2

Tuesday, January 31 2006

Hitchin made it three away wins in eight days with arguably their most professional performance of the season at the New Eyrie on Tuesday night.

Bedford were beaten by goals from two of their former players, Josh Sozzo and Gavin Jaggard. The Canaries were full value for the points and were rarely troubled by the home side.

A crowd of 488 attended a game that was originally abandoned after an hour at Christmas. At the time, Hitchin claimed they were on top when snow forced the game to be stopped. There was no doubting that claim on Tuesday.

Bedford started well, however, and Richard Wilmot stopped a goalbound effort from ex-Canary Craig Rydeheard. Hitchin gradually gained control and Stuart Hammonds- with a header- and Sozzo both went close to scoring.

There was a blow for Hitchin when David Hicks went off injured, but equally, Bedford lost a key man in Rene Howe.

Sozzo gave Hitchin the lead on the stroke of half-time, finishing well after a through ball by Daniel French.

After the break, Hitchin continued in the ascendancy and Sozzo and Jaggard both had opportunities to extend the lead.
Jaggard scored Hitchin's second goal in the 61st minute, firing home from close range after Aaran Cavill's shot was blocked.

Hitchin were comfortable for the remainder of the game and the Hitchin fans in the crowd were making all the noise.
