A superb goal, totally out of keeping with this tame pre-season friendly, consigned Hitchin to defeat against Southern League Division One side Harlow Town.
The goal, which came in the 65th minute, was scored by Harlow's French trialist Viegbe Ganyo. He struck a fierce shot into the top corner of the Hitchin net, creating the goal literally out of nothing.
Hitchin had their chances in the game, notably when Darran Hay's cross-cum-shot was cleared off the line, and when Gavin Jaggard's glancing header went inches wide.
In the second period, Hitchin lost shape and Harlow started to threaten.
Mark Salmon struck a post before Ganyo's goal, and new goalkeeper Neil Cheek showed his bravery when diving at the feet of Ganyo.
