Hitchin and Cirencester were unable to break the deadlock in an uninspiring 90 minutes at Top Field.
A tame first half came to life just before the interval. Cirencester striker Gareth Hopkins took advantage of a defensive slip and ran on to test Richard Wilmot. The Hitchin goalkeeper saved Hopkins’ first effort and also blocked the follow up.
In the opening stages of the second half, Cirencester went close again when Jody Bevan turned and shot inches wide. Wilmot came to Hitchin’s rescue when he saved a left-foot drive by Nick Stanley.
Glen Lamacraft and Matt Baldry had half chances to score for Hitchin, but Cirencester looked the more likely to open the scoring.
There was another let-off for Hitchin when a low cross just missed the outstretched boot of Marc Richards.
The Canaries best effort came in stoppage time, Josh Sozzo volleying past the post.
Hitchin: Wilmot, Barr, Blower, Smith, McCulloch (Burke 79), Baldry, Lamacraft, Cavill, Hassan (Mills 81)
