The uneven playing field that is the Herts Senior Cup was highlighted at Top Field on Tuesday night when the Canaries brushed aside the challenge of Minerva Spartan South Midlands League side Royston.
On a bitterly cold night, and in front of less than 70 people, Hitchin got to grips with life without Adam Parker by securing a place in the last eight of the competition.
Two goals from Mark Bridge and one from Ryan Nichol were enough to win the game. The first half began promisingly with Bridge's first goal on eight minutes, but deteriorated as time went on.
It was not until the 67th minute that Hitchin added their second goal, Bridge finishing after Nichol had set him up.
Within a minute, Nichol added the home side's third goal, created by Wayne Mills and Leeyon Phelan.
Hitchin: Wilmot, Childs (Frater), Bone, Burke, Osborn, Evans (Nichol 54), Mills, Maynard, Phelan, Bridge, Rydeheard (Duffy 75)
