Berkhamsted Town 3 Hitchin Town 6

Wednesday, January 21 2004

Hitchin came back from two-down to beat one of their bogey sides, Berkhamsted Town, in the Herts Senior Cup quarter final.

The Canaries continued their revival and showed great character in winning a potentially tricky tie, beating the holders to claim a place in the last four.

After 25 minutes, however, it looked bleak for Hitchin as the home side raced into a two-goal lead, with goals by Reed and Barfoot. Five minutes later, Jon Bone, who is enjoying a revival under manager Kerry Dixon, headed the Canaries' first goal.

Hitchin equalised six minutes into the second half, Mark Bridge netting following a corner. Four minutes later, an Ian Scott free kick was headed home by Ryan Frater to give Hitchin the lead.

Bridge made it four for Hitchin in the 60th minute, squeezing the ball into the net from a tight angle, and from another Scott free kick, Dean McElroy headed the Canaries' fifth goal.

In the 69th minute, Frempong reduced the arrears, but it was left to new signing Josh Sozzo to round off the evening eight minutes from time when he raced after a lost cause before scoring.
