What a difference two weeks can make, after a free week due to county call up's Hitchin returned to action against Boreham Wood in the league a fortnight after knocking them out of the County Cup.
In all fairness the game was very similar, both teams trying to pass the ball around, Boreham wood came out a little faster and pushed Hitchin back in the opening exchanges without really forcing Johnson in the Hitchin goal in too many saves. Wood won more of the possession in midfield, they huffed and puffed won a few corners, but again no real pressure on the keeper, as the half progress Hitchin came into the game and got the passing game going, creating a couple of long range half chances for Macauley Mitchell. The best chance of the half fell to Jay Brooke , who headed wide after some neat play from Jonny Mcnamara and Manny Eze.
Half time 0-0.
The second half saw Hitchin starting on the up, good possession but no pressure on the Wood keeper. After 55 mins Wood created space on the Left and after several errors whilst trying to clear the ball, it fell to Harvey Scott who fired in from a couple of yards out. Boreham wood pressed a little harder for the following five minutes, but Micheal Johnsons' dominance in the air meant that the crosses come to very little.
On the day Boreham Wood deserved the win. Hitchin must turn up more focused on what needs to be done and ensure that possession isn’t given away cheaply!! And Most importantly turn their excellent away form into a home league win , for which we are still searching for.
Final Score: Hitchin Town 0 – 1 Boreham Wood
