Hitchin Town started their 2009/2010 campaign in the EJA Challenge Cup this weekend against last seasons EJA Champions, Challenge Cup Winners and County Winners.
Having been sent out of the competition last season by this club, Hitchin were aware of the quality of their football and their players.
Aveley started off well but Hitchin, started off the better side, playing some fantastic one touch football all over the pitch. Midfield of Josh Smith, Kyle Ronald, Lee Neale and Bryn Reynolds fought for every ball and linked up well with the Hitchin forwards of Ryan Ellingham and Sean Herr.
The Defence of Matt Morley (C), George Higley, Josh Cook and Lewis Holmes were strong yet again and were composed at all times.
It didn't take long for Hitchin to take the lead after a great through ball from Midfiled found it way to Ryan Ellingham who took the ball round the keeper. 0-1
Aveley did well to keep their heads up, but Hitchin were on ‘fire’ and won everything in midfield. James Holland (GK) was protected throughout but a shot out of the blue was safely dealt with by James.
Hitchin then once again found themselves passing well which gave Ryan Ellingham his chance to add another goal to his ever increasing tally. 2-0. As the game drew to a close Alex Coppin was bought on into his midfield position and with his first touch of the ball smashed the ball for just inside the half way line to bring the final score to 0-3.
This was a fantastic game to watch, every player on the pitch worked hard and were rewarded with a much deserved win to take us through to the 2nd round.
Well done boys...keep up the god work
Aveley FC 0
Hitchin Town 3 (Ellingham 2, Coppin)
