Hitchin Town were drawn at home for the return fixture against Bishops Stortford this weekend. Having won the first draw at the beginning of the season Hitchin were aware of the quality of football Bishops Stortford can play. From the whistle the visitors looked sharp and passed the ball around well.
The Hitchin Town defence of George Higley, Matt Morley (C), Josh Cook and Lewis Holmes were under pressure but dealt with any attacks well protecting James Holland (GK). Both sides had numerous attacks but it took 35 mins before the deadlock was broken by the visitors. 0-1
The midfield of Kyle Ronald, Lee Neale, Bryn Reynolds and Alex Coppin worked hard in the middle of the park but Bishops Stortford kept the pressure on until half time.
The second half started much like the first, although Hitchin seemed to step up a gear which saw the midfield link up well with the forwards of Sean Herr and Ryan Ellinghamn. As time passed Hitchin saw chances come and go but it was Sean Herr who gave the home side the equaliser. 1-1
A few changes were made which saw Josh Smith and Simon come onto the field of play in their respective positions. As the game drew to a close, Hitchin piled on the pressure to the visitors defence and after being awarded a corner, George Higley came from his defensive position to smash the winner into the back of the net and claim his 1st goal of the season.
The game ended 2-1, a fantastic win which keeps us at the top of the table. Well done boys another well deserved 3 points.
