Hitchin Town FC U18 v Broxbourne Borough U18

Sunday, November 1 2009

Hitchin Town U18's were back to the league competition this weekend against Broxbourne Borough. Having played so well after previous weeks this was to be a shocker.

Broxbourne started off well and let Hitchin know they were here to work hard for their first win of the season.  With an extremely depleted squad this week, through injuries and County ‘call ups’ everyone knew they had to be on top form and work well as a team.

Broxbourne put the Hitchin defence of Matt Morley (C), Josh Cook, Alex Coppin and Lewis Holmes under pressure from the start.   James Holland had a lot of work to do as Broxbourne fought there way through.

Midfield of Lee Neale, Josh Smith, Dean Hardware and Kyle Ronald were also under pressure as Broxbourne midfield seemed to command the middle of the park.  As the half time loomed it was the visitors who fumbled the ball over the line after a goal mouth scamble. 0-1

The second half started much like the first. Broxbourne had a confidence about them and believed they could turn over the top of the league home side.  The forwards of Sean Herr and Bryn Reynolds found their way through the strong visitors defence only to be denied an equaliser by the quality goal keeping of the Broxbourne keeper.

As the game drew to a close it looked like all Hitchin attempts to get the upper hand were going to be non-existant and with only 10 mins left to play Broxbourne smashed a long range shot out of the blue to secure the 3 points.

This was a disappointing match to watch especially as recent games have been outstanding.  Broxbourne deserved the 3 points....we will learn from this !!
