Hitchin's season continues on track after this comprehensive victory over AFC Kempston.
The first 15 minutes was a game of cat and mouse as both teams tried to figure each other out. Kempston had the better of the early exchanges, the game plan looked to be close down, apply pressure to the man in possession and look for the long ball in behind the defence, and they just about had the better of the play, but never really troubling Micheal Johnson in the Hitchin goal. Slowly Hitchin began to start moving the ball around and with 30 minutes played Macaulay Mitchell, turned on a loose ball in the box and slotted away the games first real opening. Half time 0-1.
The second half saw Hitchin continue from where they had left off pressing without really dominating, the defence were never really under any kind of pressure. On 50 minutes some clever play by Jonny McNamara and Lee Bowler, released Mason Todd, who round the keeper and coolly finished only for the offside flag to be raised? Not to be denied, 5 minutes later another Lee bowler pass put Todd in again who from the edge of the 18 year box found the top corner 2-0.
Hitchin allowed Kempston back into the game for the next five minutes but again Micheal Johnson was not put under any pressure and the wakeup call came when the Kempston forward missed an open goal after some sloppy marking. Todd and Farrell Whitman added a further 2 goals, Todd’s a tap in from a corner and Whitman rounding the keeper to finish after some good work from Man of the match Mitchell.
This result could see Hitchin go top of the division if results go our way.
