Next season, Hitchin break new ground when they compete in the Southern League for the first time. Canaries fans are already eagerly awaiting the new fixture list, particularly as the club spent 40 years in the Isthmian League.
The club’s longest trip will be to Tiverton Town, a round trip of almost 400 miles. It will be the first time that the Canaries have ventured into Devon for a competitive match.
Tiverton finished 15th in the Southern League last season, but since the campaign ended, the club has become a limited company with a strengthened board.
Tiverton’s manager is former Bristol City defender Martyn Rogers. Last season, his team had a difficult time, but Rogers feels the summer moves will help to regain the momentum of recent years. "This is the start of a new beginning. The new directors, new skipper and new sponsors are a few good reasons to feel more optimistic. "We've got the outside perimeters of the club right and now it's a case of getting the playing side right as well. The stability of having a good relationship between manager and board is where you get your success from."
Tiverton’s recent history has provided the high point for the club. Founded in 1913, the club won the FA Vase in 1998 and 1999 and in 2001 was promoted to the Dr Marten’s League Premier.
