Get behind local club, say Hitchin Town

Hitchin Town, who have been managing expectations during the summer months, are appealing to local people to show their support and commitment to the club in the coming season.

Hitchin are looking to build their average gate to beyond 400 in 2004-05, and with an almost brand new fixture list this season, Canaries officials think the club will benefit from the "curiosity factor".

Chairman Terry Barratt, who has won a place on the Southern League management before a ball has been kicked, is inviting local fans, young and old, to Top Field. "We are the biggest club in North Herts and the oldest. We also like to think Top Field is a friendly place to come. We want to encourage new supporters to come and see what we're all about," he said.

Barratt is keen to consign last season to the past and for the club to go into this season with a smile on its face. "We had a terrible time, but each season brings with it some optimism. We have a big challenge this season, but with more support we could generate the resources to put a better team on the field."
