Hitchin's players were all made aware of the financial restrictions facing the club in the coming months this week by manager Kerry Dixon.
The former Chelsea and England striker said: "They were told the score regarding the club's finances and what is expected of them in the coming months and they all responded professionally. They reacted well in training and I must admit I have been impressed with their application since I took over."
But Dixon is also looking for new faces at Top Field. "Obviously, this is not an easy task for us, but I have already looked at potential new players. With our financial situation, we have to get players who want to come to the club and play for Hitchin. We can't have players who's sole motivation is money."
Dixon will be looking to raise his squad's fitness levels and improve set-pieces. "We will be expecting the lads to do a lot more running during games and to do that, you need to be fit. One or two players are not as fit as they could be," he said.
The new Hitchin boss will have to do without veteran midfielder Ian Scott (below) until the New Year. Scott, who has not been seen at Top Field for the past month, has taken leave of absence on his football commitments. "Ian has a few personal issues to sort out, but we're hoping to see him back at the club in the New Year," said Hitchin Coach Mark Burke. "But contrary to what some people are saying, Ian has not fallen out with the club."
