Adam Parker's departure to Braintree in midweek surprised many Hitchin fans, but Kerry Dixon says that it was impossible to stand in the way of the midfielder, who has not had a happy season at Top Field.
Braintree made a good offer to Parker, who was not on contract at Hitchin. Their manager David Culverhouse had earmarked Parker as his first major signing and moved quickly to secure his services. Dixon said: "Adam would not sign a contract with the club and of course, you are vulnerable to clubs putting an approach in. It was a fabulous deal for him and we could not prevent him moving. We wish him well, he is a quality player and he has given the club good service over the years."
Dixon has hinted that there may be more changes in personnel in the coming weeks and that "things could get worse before they get better". He wants to add some new faces to the squad, but budget constraints mean that he has to make way for additional resources.
Last Saturday, Dixon went through mixed emotions as Hitchin threw away a two-goal lead against Bognor Regis at Top Field. "I was quite pleased with our performance, but our lack of experience showed through. I would like to think that we won't let a good lead slip too often though," he said.
In midweek, Hitchin made progress in the Herts Senior Cup in a relatively easy tie. "We were comfortable but you still have to win these games and winning is a good habit to acquire."
