Where's my medal? Asks Parker

Saturday, July 5 2003

Hitchin midfielder Adam Parker is looking forward to welcoming his old club, Aldershot Town to Top Field next Saturday for a pre-season friendly.

But Parker is still smarting over not receiving a medal for the Ryman League Champions title win last season, despite appearing in more than a dozen games. "I think they owe me a medal," says Parker. "I certainly played in enough games to qualify."

It is the second time that Parker has played a part in a title winning team only to be denied of a momento. At Stevenage, he did not receive a medal when the Broadhall Way outfit clinched the Isthmian League in 1994.

Parker is hoping to make up for that at Hitchin, where he returned for his second spell last March. His sojourn at Aldershot came to an end when new manager Terry Brown sidelined the 27 year-old, but Parker has no regrets. "It was an enjoyable spell at what is a massive club.

The pressure can be intense, but it is an enjoyable pressure. And the fans can be brilliant, if somewhat fickle."

Parker was happy to return to Top Field and delighted to net his 100th goal. Ironically, Parker's last appearance at Hitchin before moving to Aldershot was against the Shots, a game when he and two other Canaries' players were sent off.

"I want Hitchin to progress," he says. "After tasting life at Aldershot, I want to win things at Hitchin. And I think we have a chance to do well here. We've got a good side emerging and I want to play my part in building something exciting."
