Hitchin Town have appointed a new club president for the first time in almost 20 years. Tony Huckle, for many years a supporter, sponsor and official of the club, took over from John Dawson last week.
Huckle, a popular figure at the club, and a well-known retailer in Hitchin for many years, was delighted to assume his new role. "I am extremely honoured to find myself in this position.
Hitchin Town has always been my team and I am proud to be associated with it. I look forward to helping the club in what we think will be an exciting era," he said.
Well known amongst Hitchin's Ryman League rivals, Huckle helps to raise funds and with the club's hospitality.
He began watching the Canaries in the late 1940s, became involved in various capacities in the 1960s and joined the Board in 1990.
"Tony is a great character and is renowned for his generosity," said Chairman Terry Barratt. "He is one of the club's most staunchly loyal followers."
Barratt also paid tribute to outgoing President, John Dawson. "John has made a valuable contribution to the club over the years, especially in the 1980s when times were difficult. We thank him and he will always be welcome at Top Field."
