Canaries face tough away schedule

Hitchin travel to Aylesbury on Tuesday night (kick off 7.45pm) and Kings Lynn next Saturday as they begin their away programme.

Aylesbury is familiar territory for the Canaries, but Kings Lynn is a trip into the unknown but one that could be the toughest test so far for Kerry Dixon’s side.

Kings Lynn stormed to promotion last season, scoring goals aplenty and drawing four figure gates to their stadium. Renowned as a difficult ground for visiting sides, it could be an uncomfortable afternoon for Hitchin. "They will be fired up after winning their title last season and they are clearly an ambitious outfit, so it will be a real hurdle for us," says Dixon.

Hitchin have a big squad this season, as evidenced by the club’s photocall last week. Although there is a huge youthful presence, there is also lots of experience in the shape of Paul Covington, Darran Hay and other longer-serving players like Mark Burke and Ian Scott. "I think we will be difficult to beat, but there are areas where we can improve. If we are able to field our best side, we can make life difficult for our opponents."

Kings Lynn underlined their potential and their financial clout when they signed Mark Angel from Football League side Boston United. The East Anglian side have been named amongst the favourites for this season’s Southern League Premier Division.
