Hitchin break new ground on Monday when they travel to ambitious Histon. The Cambridgeshire side have started the new season well and before Saturday's meeting with Gloucester, they had lost just once in four games.
Histon will welcome back manager Steve Fallon, who has been on holiday for two weeks. Former Cambridge United boss and cold shower advocate John Beck has been standing in for Fallon and may eventually become part of the management at Histon.
Histon lost their opening game of the season at Cirencester but followed that up with wins against Dunstable and Halesowen. In midweek, they drew 1-1 at Stamford. Players to watch include Histon's two front-men, Ian Cambridge and Neil Kennedy.
The Southern League Premier has yet to take shape and there have been some erratic results. "There hasn't been a lot of logic in some of the scorelines we've seen," said Hitchin Manager Kerry Dixon. "It will take 10 or more games until we find out who the front-runners will be."
Dixon believes that despite last week's setback against Grantham, Hitchin have given a reasonable account of themselves so far. "We've beaten two of the fancied sides but lost to teams we would have hoped to get a result against. But we have created a lot of chances, which bodes well. You have to take your chances otherwise you get punished, which is exactly what Grantham did to us."
Hitchin are at home again next Saturday when they face Solihull Borough, who started their campaign off with a resounding 5-0 win against Hemel Hempstead. But since then, Solihull have lost three successive games before Saturday's visit to Tiverton.
