Crunch time for Hitchin as students come to town

Hitchin Town face the first of what manager Darran Hay calls "eleven cup finals" as the Canaries play host to Team Bath.

"Every game is a big one for us at the moment, but as the fans have seen this past few weeks, we are playing well and our confidence is high," says Hay.

Last week, Hay was delighted with a point at one of his former clubs, Kings Lynn. "We almost had three, but we settled for one although some of the lads were disappointed which shows how things have changed here," he adds.

Hitchin will be up against a team in second place in the BGB Premier Division, level on points with leaders Kings Lynn. But the students have lost three out of their last four games, including two damaging home defeats. "They are a strong, quick side and they will be keen to get their title bid back on track, so it couldn't be tougher," says Hay.

Hitchin will welcome back Dean Gilbert to the squad, but Jon Stevenson will have a fitness test before the game. Martin Bennett has recovered from injury, but Ricky Perks is two weeks away from returning. Mark Bridge is also sidelined.
