Local derby has extra edge

Hitchin Town play host to Bedford Town on Saturday in a game that is likely to have a keen edge to it with both teams battling to stay out of relegation trouble.

The Canaries, rejuvenated in recent weeks, will be in particularly high spirits after drawing with title challenging Kings Lynn on Tuesday night. Bedford watched Hitchin come back from two-down and must have been impressed with the second half performance of Darran Hay's men. "We were tremendous and fully deserved the point. We are showing incredible self-belief at the moment - a month ago we couldn’t have taken on Kings Lynn the way we have in two games and come out of it undefeated," says Hay.

Hitchin will come up against four old boys in a Bedford side that has struggled all season. Josh Sozzo, Matt Childs and Rob Miller as well as the recently signed Colm Kierans will turn out for the Eagles.

Hay believes that if his team continues to improve, the Canaries will be safe before the last game of the season, but he warns against complacency. "We have a lot to do and we don't have much margin for error. We have some big games against teams that also needs points, so we can’t let up. But I am confident we will stay clear of danger and I can't speak too high of the lads, they have been terrific in the past few weeks and shown what they are capable of."
