Canaries face Clevedon in cup showdown

Hitchin Town are hoping to progress to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup for the fourth time in the past decade.

The Canaries travel to fellow BGB Premier division side Clevedon Town on Saturday, knowing that they will be up against an in-form side that have been surprising a few people recently.

On Tuesday night, Clevedon won 3-0 at highly fancied Bath City and Hitchin manager Darren Salton was there to see the game. “They looked  a very good side and we will be up against it at Clevedon,” he said.

Hitchin have been plagued with injuries in the past fortnight, but the character shown at Bognor Regis in the last round should act as inspiration for Salton’s men. “Everyone wrote us off at Bognor, but we dug in a got a great result. The lads are confident but we know we will be in for a tough time against a team that is full of confidence at the moment,” added Salton.

Clevedon, who are just below Hitchin in the league, have never reached the fourth qualifying round, so there will be plenty of incentive for the home side at the Hand Stadium. They beat Truro City and Willand Rovers in the previous two rounds.
They have won three of their last four games, beating Bath, Maidenhead and Rugby.
