Hitchin manager Darren Salton believes his team has made significant progress since last season and consistency has become a watchword amongst his players.

Speaking at a Hitchin Supporters Trust meeting, Salton said his team was amongst the best in the Southern League. "We have the best squad of players in this area and man-for-man, we have a better team than any of our rivals- I firmly believe that."

Salton is convinced that Hitchin can challenge at the top end of the table. "We have been very consistent this season and you have to remember, we have rarely been able to field our first eleven. But we have coped well with injuries and the fact we have lost just three games this season shows that."

Hitchin’s improvement has been built on a "fantastic team spirit", he added. "Players want to come to Hitchin. Josh Sozzo could have gone to a number of clubs, for more money, but he wanted to come back to Hitchin. Players like it here, they like what we are trying to achieve and the spirit we have at Hitchin."

Salton paid tribute to the Supporters Trust. "You are helping to bring players like Sozzo to the club. Your contribution has been fantastic," he said.
