Hitchin aiming to bring in the kids

Hitchin Town are going all out in a bid to attract younger supporters in the 2006-07 season.

The club will not charge any child under 16 for entry to league games during the season. This does not apply to cup ties or friendlies.

“We are only too aware that our crowd is getting older and we want to nurture a new generation of Hitchin fans,” said Chairman Terry Barratt. “These people are our future.”

Canaries officials have been concerned for some time about the lack of young supporters present at home games. The club has a loyal fan base, but the average age is thought to be in the mid-40s – early 50s range. “With Premiership and Football League so expensive now, we would hope to appeal to youngsters who want to watch a game,” added Barratt.
