Hitchin Town have paid tribute to former Assistant Manager Ian Donnelly and are hoping that one of the club's most popular characters will remain at Top Field in some capacity.
Donnelly's role in the past 12 months has won him many friends at the club, often standing in for absent manager Kerry Dixon. Hitchin-born Donnelly was on the short-list for the manager's job but the club's committee appointed Darren Salton.
Although Salton named Ken Gillard as his number two, he offered Donnelly a role at the club. "Donners did a good job for Kerry and this was recognised," said Salton. "He's a great lad and a good man to have around. We'd like that to continue."
Chairman Terry Barratt emphasised that Donnelly had taken a lot of pressure off former boss Dixon. "Ian is a 100% Hitchin man and there were times over the past 12 months where he has taken the load himself. His commitment has never been anything other than first-class."
