Ware provide stiff test for Canaries

Monday, August 7 2006

Hitchin begin their Herts Charity Cup campaign with a tough game against Ryman League first division side Ware at Top Field on Saturday.

Manager Darren Salton is keen to start the Canaries competitive programme at home with a win, especially after losing at Salisbury on Saturday.

"This is a game I want to win and a competition that I am going all out to win this season. Winning is a habit and I want my players to get that habit, no matter what competition we are playing in," he said.

Salton will be fielding Hitchin's strongest possible team ahead of the first league game of the season at Tiverton. "We will treat this game as a warm up for the league season, so I will want my best available line-up," adds Salton.

Ware won the Ryman League second division last season and will play in the first division in 2006-07. "They are obviously on a high after last year, so they will be keen to carry on from where they left off- we will need to be at our best," warns Salton.

Ware have not visited Hitchin since 1994-95 when they were beaten in the Herts Senior Cup. The Canaries' meetings with the East Herts side go back to 1928-29.
