Chris Dillon is excited to be returning to Hitchin after just over two years away from Top Field.
Speaking on the eve of the club’s first pre-season training session, Dillon explained why he returned to the club despite Bedford winning promotion to the Conference South.
“Darren Salton was a big part of why I have come back,” he says. “He and Ken Gillard are both ambitious people and we share the same ambitions for Hitchin Town.”
Dillon said that if Salton had been appointed manager in December 2003, he might well have still been at Hitchin. “I didn’t like what was happening at the club at the time- it seemed to be in a mess and one or two decisions made were clearly not the right ones. I had been approached by Bedford, I wanted to talk about it with someone, but nobody was there to talk to.”
Dillon moved to Bedford and in his time there scored around a half century of goals. His first spell at Hitchin was also productive and Canaries fans can now look forward to seeing one of the most prolific strikers in the league lining up in the yellow shirt.
