Richard Wilmot won the double at Hitchin Town’s presentation evening on May 13, scooping both the Players’ Player and Supporters Player of the year prizes.

Wilmot, who had an excellent season for the Canaries, and was the supporters’ favourite for the second year running. The veteran goalkeeper urged everyone to get behind the management team of Darren Salton and Ken Gillard.“These guys are doing the job for nothing and their commitment is tremendous,” he said. “The team spirit is superb here at Hitchin and I believe we deserved to stay up.”

Salton named Josh Sozzo as his player of the season and revealed that the former Bedford striker is Hitchin’s new captain.
Chairman Terry Barratt awarded his clubman of the year to Nick Sopowski and Alan Tracey.

The most emotional part of the evening was the retirement of Dennis and Vera Chapman, who have been involved with the club since the 1940s. Dennis Chapman made a heartfelt farewell speech: “I want everyone to work together to get this club back to where it belongs- as the premier club in Hertfordshire.”

There were also special presentations to Mark Burke and Ian Scott, two players that have appeared 1,300 times for Hitchin between them.
