Canaries seek "comfort points" against Puritans

Friday, March 11 2005

Both Banbury and Hitchin will be keen to gain some points in the battle to avoid dropping into the bottom four. Most people consider the Canaries are virtually safe, but Banbury are in 20th spot, five places above Solihull Borough. Hitchin are now in 16th place, their lowest position so far this season.

Team news: Aaron Cavill, who rejected a move to Aylesbury in midweek, returns to the Hitchin side. James Ayres starts his four-match suspension.

Current form: Banbury have lost five of their last six games, and have won just two of their last 10 games. They have not won at home this year – their last success being a 3-1 win against Tiverton in December. Last week they were beaten by out-of-touch Cirencester.

Hitchin's fightback from two-down against Chesham was much-needed, but the Canaries have lost six of their last 10 league games. Hitchin won 1-0 against Banbury earlier this season.

Last six: Banbury L, W, L, L, L, L Hitchin D, L, W, L, L, L

Men to watch: Banbury's Howard Forinton has netted 18 league goals this season – he's well known to the Canaries. Kevin Brock, Banbury's manager, has been robbed of a number of key players recently and is keen to strengthen his squad.

Comment: "That was a cracking game against Chesham – the lads did brilliantly to come back, and, I think everyone was pleased with the way we played in the second half," said Darren Salton.
