Hitchin Town Football Club have parted company with manager Darren Salton following the Canaries' defeat at Kings Lynn in the Errea Cup. Salton, his assistant Ken Gillard and coach David Cooper have departed the club with immediate effect.
Salton was appointed manager in December 2004. Under his managership, Hitchin won the Errea Cup in 2005-06. Chairman Terry Barratt said: “Darren did a good job for us in the first two years following his appointment, but it has been obvious for some time we have lost our way. The current situation we find ourselves in is unacceptable and we need to make some changes at the club. We should like to thank Darren, Ken and David for their efforts and we wish them the best of luck in their next venture.”
Following Salton’s departure, Hitchin Town have appointed Darran Hay as manager. Hay, who was previously with Arlesey Town, takes control for his first game at Carshalton Athletic on Saturday November 24. A three-time winner of the FA Trophy, Hay has a rich pedigree in non-league football, including spells with Woking and Stevenage Borough. He played for Hitchin between 2004 and 2005.
Hitchin Director Andy Melvin said of Hay’s appointment: “Darran is a Hitchin man and is delighted to be managing his home town club. His knowledge of non-league football is unmatched and we anticipate an interesting and entertaining time with him in charge.
