Hitchin travel to Yate Town hoping for a repeat of the last occasion they visited Lodge Road in December 2006.
The Canaries won 5-2 that afternoon and climbed to second in the table. In many ways, it marked the high point of a promising team that was to break up in the months that followed. A similar result, however, would provide some pointers to the future of the current Hitchin combination.
Certainly Hitchin are in much better shape than they were at the end of last season. Unbeaten in seven league and cup games, they recorded their best FA Cup win in 34 years on Tuesday night and are eagerly awaiting the third qualifying round tie with Margate next week. "The lads are growing in confidence week by week," says Darren Salton. "Haverhill was a tricky tie but we stuck with it, took our chances and got the result we needed."
Yate have had a mixed start to the season and have lost their last two games. In the past couple of years, they have been a strong home side but this term, they have lost three of their five games at Lodge Road.
Hitchin will welcome back Jon Stevenson who has now completed his three game suspension.
