Hitchin Town Football Club is to link-up with global and local charities for a benefit game involving personalities from the world's of showbusiness and football.
The game will take place on Sunday May 2 with proceeds being split between the Friedreichs Ataxia Group, the various charities endorsed by the Letchworth & Baldock Lions, and Hitchin Town FC.
The two teams taking part will be the Kerry Dixon XI and Jess Conrad's Showbiz XI. Kerry Dixon, one of the British games's leading strikers in the 1980s, played for Chelsea and England, appearing in the 1986 World Cup for his country. Jess Conrad, a popular entertainer in the 1960s, has for many years run teams for charitable purposes. The two teams will comprise well-known ex-footballers and people from various genres of entertainment.
Hitchin Town is pleased to be working for the benefit of worthy charitable concerns. Chairman Terry Barratt said: "We aspire to be a community club at Hitchin and to be associated with the Friederichs Ataxia Group and the local Lions is an important part of that ethos."
Friedreichs Ataxia (FA) is an uncommon, inherited condition, first manifesting as ataxia in childhood, following a progressive disabling course, and having a variety of complications. Although there is no specific treatment for it, fundamental research into its pathogenesis is ongoing worldwide.
