Barnes joins Canaries ahead of Brackley game

Hitchin Town have signed striker Paul Barnes from Arlesey Town.

Barnes, a diminutive player with pace and a good scoring record, has previously played for Barton Rovers and AFC Wimbledon. He also played for Kimpton under current Hitchin Youth Chairman John Morrell.

Hitchin manager Darran Hay is delighted to add Barnes to his squad: "Paul will make a big impact, of that I sure. He is an exciting player with a goalscorer's instinct."

Hay hopes to add more players to his squad in the coming days. Barnes is currently injured and will be out for around two weeks.

Hitchin travel to Brackley tomorrow hoping to add to their memorable win at Bashley in midweek. "The lads showed a lot of character at Bashley and it demonstrated we are up for the challenge of staying in the BGB Premier."

Brackley won at Top Field recently in a game that Hitchin should have earned something from. Hay added: "We were unlucky against Brackley and just needed that finishing touch to get something out of it. The win at Bashley has done us a power of good and restored some confidence to the squad. We're up for it."
