It's early days to talk of play-offs, but two sides with designs on a place in the top five of the BGB Premier Division battle it out on Saturday at Top Field. Hitchin, in sixth place, host Rugby Town who are one place above them.
“It's a six-pointer even at this stage of the season,” says Manager Darren Salton. “If we win we go above them and we want to get into the top five and stay there.”
But Salton knows that Rugby will provide stiff opposition. “They have done well this season- they have a good manager and some good young players.”
Hitchin will welcome back Josh Sozzo after illness and Gavin Jaggard has recovered from a slight knock. Grant Carney is out until after Christmas.
Salton was disappointed with his team’s performance against Corby in the Errea Cup. “We just didn’t play as we can. It’s shame because at Halesowen last Saturday we played some of our best football of the season.”
