Canaries take on the leaders

Friday, December 8 2006

Hitchin travel to BGB Premier Division leaders Bath City on Saturday hoping to end a run of three successive defeats.

The Canaries were beaten on Tuesday night by Bishop’s Stortford in the Herts Senior Cup, another disappointment after the second half collapse against Tiverton Town last Saturday.

Manager Darren Salton was upset at the way his team lost after leading 2-0, but was philosophical about the game. “We have come back on a few occasions this season, so we know that this is part of the game, but the way we lost really got to us. But we performed well against Stortford and we are determined to do well at Bath.

Top of the table Bath are a point ahead of Mangotsfield and are unbeaten in five games. They have shown some vulnerability at home, however, and have been beaten by both Clevedon and Stamford. “Bath are flying at the moment and as an ambitious club they must feel that they are at last getting it right,” says Canaries manager Darren Salton. “This will be a tough game, but it will also test our character after three poor results.”

Hitchin will be looking for a change of luck at Twerton Park. In five league visits- to Bath City and Team Bath – they have failed to win. Salton will call on the same squad that lost 0-1 against Bishop’s Stortford.
