Cirencester will be out for revenge

Weather permitting, Hitchin will face Cirencester at Top Field tomorrow, aware that the visitors will be out to avenge their 7-0 home defeat in the Errea Cup.

Darren Salton believes that the game will be doubly difficult because of that result. “They will be out to get back at us and they are more than capable of doing that, so we have to be prepared to battle hard,” he said. “Cirencester have some good players, but we played exceptionally well in the cup game and caught them cold. It will be different this time.”

Cirencester showed great character following that defeat and won 2-1 at Rugby last weekend, despite losing goalkeeper Paul Thompson through injury. Although they have had a patchy season, they beat the Canaries 2-1 earlier in the season, and Hitchin have yet to beat them in three league meetings.

Salton had a boost this week with the news that David Hicks will stay at Top Field for the rest of the season. Josh Sozzo returns this week, likely to pair up with Thomas Hayes, who scored twice in the 2-2 draw with Gloucester. Gavin Jaggard is still suspended.
