Hitchin go into this weekend's game with Yate knowing that any further slip-ups could prove decisive in their bid to avoid the drop zone in the BGB Premier Division.
The Canaries have it in their own hands to keep clear of relegation but current form suggests that Darren Salton’s men may have to rely on the failure of others to secure their Premier status. The midweek games all went against Hitchin with Tiverton, Rugby, Northwood, Corby, Clevedon, Wealdstone and Cheshunt all picking up points. The two meetings with Clevedon on April 21 and 24 could prove the most crucial games of the season.
Yate have picked up one point from their last three games and lost at home to Tiverton in midweek. Their play-off hopes have now gone.
Hitchin will recall their last two games with Yate- a 4-3 win at Top Field last season and a 5-2 success at Yate on December 23, arguably one of the high points in what has become a disappointing season for the Canaries.
