Youngster may feature in Canaries trip to Mangotsfield

Hitchin manager Darren Salton has drafted in young striker Scott Orphanou into his squad for the game with Mangotsfield United.

After a gruelling FA Cup replay with Saffron Walden, Hitchin’s players are licking their wounds. Wayne Mills is out for around a month and leading scorer Chris Dillon is struggling to be fit. Orphanou, a prolific goalscorer who has graduated through the ranks from Hitchin Town Youth, has impressed this season. “If he’s called upon, he won’t let us down,” Salton insists.

Salton heaped praise upon Saffron Walden for their performances over two tough games. “They were brilliant and played above the level they are at. They were also incredibly gracious in defeat- we wish them well for the rest of the season.”

Mangotsfield have lost just once this season and are in second place in the BGB Premier. But their home form has been patchy. Hitchin are unbeaten in seven league and cup games. “This is a very hard game for us, but then they all are,” says Salton. “Mangotsfield are going well, but if we work as hard as we have in recent weeks, I will have few complaints.”
