Hitchin aim to consolidate start to season

Following Tuesday night’s exciting 4-2 win against Wealdstone, Hitchin play host to Cirencester on Saturday hoping to consolidate their top six position.

The Canaries jumped to sixth place after beating the Stones, leaving the Top Field crowd calling for more. “We showed a lot of character, coming back from a goal down,” said Manager Darren Salton. “And we played some very exciting football- it was a good result against decent opposition.”

Salton is aware that he is yet to beat Cirencester in the league, and last season’s home defeat against them was among the worst displays of 2005-06. “They have a new manager [Neil Hards] and they will be fired up after winning themselves in midweek.”

Cirencester, after a goal-starved start to the season, won 2-0 at Northwood in midweek. Hards, despite having a poor pre-season and a lack of goals in the first four games, has been pleased with his team in the opening few weeks. “I could not ask for more effort,” he said. “But it was good to get that first win under our belt.”
