Almost 900 people left disappointed

Hitchin Town’s game at Bedford on December 27 fell victim of the snow and was abandoned after 60 minutes. Doubtful earlier in the day, the game passed a pitch inspection at midday, but the late afternoon snowfall made it difficult to see the touchlines, so the referee called the game off with the score 0-0. A crowd of almost 900 had turned up to see the local derby, but supporters will now have to pay again to see the game when it is eventually replayed.

In the post-match inquest, Bedford’s management complained that their players could not see the ball as the snow was falling in their direction. At the time that the game was called off, Hitchin were in the ascendancy and looked the likelier winners – Bedford, the league leaders, had scarcely tested Hitchin goalkeeper Richard Wilmot.

The Canaries, fielding three new signings – Parys Okai, Gavin Jaggard and Liam Folds – battled well against a Bedford side that contained three former Hitchin players, Craig Rydeheard, Carl Williams and Chris Dillon.
